Welcoming a new member to the family is an incredible journey, but we know how busy those first few weeks can be! For our local mums in North Lakes and Dakabin, I’ve put together a few simple tips to help you prepare for your very first newborn photoshoot at Sweetlife Studio.

1. Timing is Everything The “sweet spot” for those sleepy, curly poses is usually between 5 and 14 days old. However, as an older newborn specialist, I also love capturing babies who are a few weeks older!

2. Feed Right Before the Session A full tummy equals a happy, sleepy baby. I recommend a good feeding just before you arrive at our North Lakes home studio. Don’t worry if they need a “top-up” during the shoot—we have a comfortable space for breastfeeding and changes.

3. Keep it Simple with Outfits For family shots, neutral colors work best. Think creams, soft greys, or pastels. As a graphic design major, I always look at the overall color harmony to ensure your portraits look like timeless pieces of art.

4. It’s Okay if They Cry! Many Dakabin mums worry about their baby being fussy. Please don’t! With 10 years of experience, I’ve seen it all. We move at your baby’s pace, with plenty of time for cuddles and settling.

5. Comfort is Key Our studio is kept warm to keep your baby comfortable in their birthday suit or wraps. Mums, feel free to dress in light layers so you stay cool too!
