AU Photo EXIF Privacy Policy

AU Photo EXIF is a Chrome extension that allows users to view EXIF metadata from an image they explicitly select on a webpage.

Data Handled

The extension may process the following information:

  • Website content: The image explicitly selected by the user and its image URL are accessed solely to read and display available EXIF metadata.
  • Location information: If the selected image contains embedded GPS coordinates, the extension may read and display those coordinates to the user.
  • Network request information: To analyse a web image, the extension requests that selected image from its original website or content delivery network (CDN). The original host may receive standard request information, such as the user’s IP address and browser request details, under that host’s own privacy practices.

How the Data Is Used

The selected image and its EXIF metadata are processed locally in the user’s browser only after the user explicitly selects an image and chooses the View EXIF command.

Data Storage and Transmission

AU Photo EXIF does not transmit images, image URLs, EXIF metadata, GPS coordinates, or browsing information to the developer or to any server controlled by the developer.

The selected image must be requested from its original website or CDN so it can be analysed. The extension does not send the resulting image data or EXIF metadata to the developer or to an unrelated third party.

The extension does not persistently store, sell, share, or transfer user data. It does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or remote code.

Permissions

The extension uses active tab, context menu, and scripting permissions to provide the View EXIF command and display the result panel only in the tab where the user invokes it. Optional host access is requested only for the original website or CDN of the image explicitly selected by the user. The extension does not request permanent access to all websites at installation.

User Control and Responsible Use

AU Photo EXIF does not analyse images in the background. Processing begins only after the user explicitly selects an image and chooses View EXIF. GPS coordinates are displayed only when they are already embedded in the selected image.

Users are responsible for using displayed metadata lawfully and for respecting the privacy and rights of other people. EXIF metadata may be incomplete, inaccurate, altered, or removed by a website or image service.

Limited Use

Any information accessed by the extension is used only to provide its single stated purpose. The use of information received through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
